Younger people 'suffer age discrimination too'
It is not only older workers that suffer from age discrimination, the Employers Forum on Age has claimed.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live's Wake Up To Money programme, director of the forum Sam Mercer said that younger workers were also at risk of suffering from age-related discrimination.

Although older workers were more at risk of suffering from it due to demographic reasons, it was important to realise that discrimination went both ways, she said.

She commented: "Ageism just isn't seen as a bad thing at work. It's certainly not on a par with racism and sexism, and that's something we've all got to challenge."

The comments come after a survey by the EFA found that workplace ageism was "rife" in the UK, with 61 per cent of working Britons saying that they had come across ageist behaviour at work.

Around 31 per cent of respondents said that they had worked for a company where an older person was paid more than a younger person performing exactly the same job.
