Graduates from the Glasgow School of Art have higher rates of unemployment than their counterparts at any other higher education institution in the UK, new research has revealed.
Data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency shows that 18 per cent of students do not have a job six months after leaving the school, according to the BBC.
The institution's director Seona Reid acknowledged that this is the highest rate in the country, but said the results are misleading as artist's careers tend to follow different paths to those of other professions.
"The early career paths of artists, designers and architects are not as structured as those for graduates from other disciplines," she told the news provider.
Despite this result for the Glasgow School of Art, the study found that overall Scottish graduates have better employment prospects than those in England.
According to the Independent, university leavers with degrees in medicine and dentistry have the best rates of employment, while scientists can expect high salaries.
