Companies who make job cuts within their IT departments risk losing sensitive information such as important passwords, according to a new poll.
ID Management specialists Cyber-Ark conducted the survey among 300 IT employees.
Only 12 per cent of those questioned said they would not steal data if they lost their jobs at short notice while nine out of ten said they would.
A third said they would leave their posts with privileged password information.
Chief executive of the firm Udi Mokady said: "Recession-dismissed IT staff will steal your secrets – if you let them. We recommend companies secure their privileged identities and sensitive information in a digital vault."
He added that firms rarely change passwords and protection methods as it is seen to be too much trouble.
UK insurance company Allianz said their advice phone line has seen a surge in the number of calls made by managers considering making redundancies, reported the Telegraph.
