The results of a new survey reveal that many workers in the UK would feel healthier and less stressed overall if they did not have to commute to work, underlining the stressful nature of having to travel to work in the morning.
Almost half (48 per cent) of all those surveyed by ntl:Telewest Business agreed that cutting the commute would have tangible de-stress benefits. Meanwhile, more than half (52 per cent) agreed that working from home would make them a 'greener' person overall.
These findings highlight the desire of many workers to take greater control of the work/life balance and stop having to travel in and out of the workplace, if at all possible.
In addition, over two thirds (69 per cent) stated that home working would actually make them more productive, away from social distractions and banter.
"Commuting is a hassle for many people, especially for those who have commitments outside of work and need flexibility," commented Stephen Beynon of ntl:Telewest Business, according to Online Recruitment.
A recent study by the UK's City & Guilds and Institute of Leadership & Management concluded that nine in ten managers trust remote staff, while three-quarters deem them more productive than office-based workers, reports Management Issues.
