A US energy company that is set to create hundreds of jobs in the north-east has been praised by prime minister Tony Blair.
International Power Group is looking to set up a base in Blyth, providing 50 new jobs initially, reports the Evening Chronicle.
The firm has come up with a new type of technology that helps to slash the use of fossil fuels and gets rid of rubbish efficiently and cleanly.
Mr Blair welcomed the announcement of the firm's expansion in the light of the increasing importance of green issues, particularly in terms of energy, to the world's leaders.
"This is a fantastic technological opportunity for countries like ours in the future,'' he commented.
Last week, the Northern Echo reported that plans to build a £300 million deep sea terminal at Teesport could result in the creation of about 5,500 new jobs if they are approved by the government.
