The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union has threatened strike action as part of its campaign against civil service job cuts and pay levels, ahead of its meeting with the Cabinet Office on Thursday.
The PCS today revealed the next steps in its campaign on another day of 'action short of strike' whereby its members only work their contracted hours, hold member meetings and campaign in public, Personneltoday.com reports.
The union has remained disconcerted over the government's programme of public sector reforms following the Gershon review in 2004.
The review outlines how through the relocation of 20,000 roles from the south-east and slashing 80,000 jobs along with other efficiency related gains the government stands to save £20 billion over four years.
A PCS statement to its members said: "We continue to work hard for a negotiated settlement to this dispute. There are signs of some movement by the employer, but we are not yet in substantive talks in any formal sense and our campaigning must continue with that as its aim."
May 1st 2007 has been announced as the provisional date for another national civil servant strike unless negotiations are successful before then.
