Two million workers in Britain are classed as vulnerable, a new report has stated.
According to the Trade Union Congress' (TUC) Commission on Vulnerable Employment, the poor treatment of these workers in still perfectly legal in the eyes of the law.
These vulnerable Britons are trapped in low-paid jobs where they are exploited, the commission discovered.
General secretary of the TUC and chair of the commission Brendan Barber stated that he was "shocked" at the results of the findings, but reassured conscientious employers.
"Good employers have nothing to fear - and much to gain - from policies that stop them being undercut by bad employers who break the law or use loopholes to get round it," he said.
The report suggested that awareness of employment rights should be improved in the future, which would include providing more funding into the issue.
Commenting on the release of the report, the Confederation of British Industry suggested proper enforcement of the existing law is the best way of tackling the problem.
