The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for employers to implement a policy on Aids and HIV in the workplace, so that those suffering from the illness are not discriminated against.
Following World Aids Day at the weekend, the TUC has launched a campaign involving posters and leaflets to help bosses support workers with HIV.
General secretary of the TUC Brendan Barber said that people suffering with the condition should be able to lead "full working lives".
"With a year on year increase in the numbers of people with HIV in the UK and with the majority of those of working age, there is no room for complacency among employers," he warned.
Mr Barber stated that all employers should adopt a policy on HIV and Aids.
The TUC has also helped to improve education on the subject abroad in places such as Kenya, Malawi and South Africa.
World Aids Day was held on December 1st, with a number of countries around the world staging events to increase awareness of the issue.
