Teachers need training 'to feel confident using IT'

Teachers need to be fully trained in IT so that they feel confident teaching computer skills to their pupils, one organisation has claimed.
According to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS), some teachers can feel intimidated because the children they are teaching are already very adept at using a PC.
Therefore teachers need to feel confident as computers are becoming an important part of how they teach the curriculum.
Elspeth Farrar, communications director for AGCAS, said: "It's something the government requires schools to do to ensure that whatever subject you are delivering in a school that there is some element of use of technology as part of it."
However, she did add that the training needed would depend on the individual teacher.
Teachernet published some key facts about ICT which revealed that secondary schools have an average of one computer for every 3.6 pupils.
