TDA: Opportunities available for maths and science teachers
02-06-2008
There are not enough maths and science teachers around the country, it has been suggested.
Newly-qualified secondary school teachers in maths and science have a number of opportunities available to them, a spokesperson for the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) has said.
The TDA stated: "We are keen to attract more secondary maths and science trainee teachers and places are available on courses starting in September 2008."
Teachers in these subjects could receive a £5,000 'golden hello' when they start working and are guaranteed a £9,000 bursary to train.
According to the spokesperson, "first-rate candidates" have successfully been attracting to the profession, which the agency described as a "top career choice".
The Department for Children, Skills and Families recently revealed that in state-funded schools around the country there are now 1,900 more full-time teachers than compared to the same time last year.
