Strong hiring in financial services expected for 2007

Hiring in London's financial services sector is likely to be even stronger in 2007 than last year, it has been predicted.
Figures from Morgan McKinley show that in the first half of January 2007, new job numbers were up 12.4 per cent on the same period of 2006, while numbers of new candidates coming onto the market increased by 17 per cent.
The picture of a strong appetite for hiring in the investment banking and financial services job markets was reinforced by figures from December 2006, which showed job numbers were 74.1 per cent higher than in December 2005.
However, new candidate numbers dropped by 26 per cent in December as many staff put off seeking new jobs until they had got their bonuses.
"Although it is still early days for 2007, indicators are already pointing towards another year of high activity levels within the financial services recruitment market," said chief executive of Morgan McKinley, Robert Thesiger.
"2006 saw impressive job growth volumes across the sector due to the buoyancy of the financial services industry and institutions' expansion and diversification of their operations and services in order to meet ongoing demand."
