IT salaries in the south east of England recorded strong growth last year, according to new figures.
Wages grew by 3.4 per cent in the region compared to 2006, CV Screen has discovered.
Regional account manager for the firm Jason Price remarked that workers in certain areas of the industry are in more demand than others.
"Our expectation is that the IT jobs market in the south east region will remain buoyant in 2008, with continuing skills shortages in areas such as PHP, Citrix, .Net and Java," he said.
He added that there is a "continuing high demand for IT staff".
The average salary for IT professionals in the south east, which includes the counties of Sussex, Essex, Surrey, Kent, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire, is £33,513.
Recently it was suggested that the pay gap between IT workers in the north and in the south is narrowing.
ReThink Recruitment stated that IT salaries in the north grew faster than those in the south this year, but still only amount to 69 per cent of wages earned in the south east.
