Small businesses could struggle with new diversity action plan

Smaller businesses may struggle to embrace new guidelines from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), one expert has said.
Kieran O'Keeffe of the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) commented that larger companies may find it easier to tackle the diversity action plan from the EHRC, Personnel Today reports.
Policy adviser at the BCC Mr O'Keeffe noted that the policy points towards large organisations.
"If there were more policy requirements for the procurement process, there would be problems for smaller companies," he said.
EHRC chairman Trevor Phillips had previously warned that companies must adhere to the guidance.
"When practices are heinous enough and resistance is embedded, we will back invasive investigations, litigation, legislation and coercive frameworks to the hilt," he commented.
Mr Phillips recently called for the government to use representative actions to address the equal pay crisis.
According to Mr Phillips, court action is a "luxury good" for the majority of people suffering from discrimination.
