The engineering sector should be working together to solve the skills crisis instead of blaming each other, one expert has said.
Managing director of Roevin Keith Gallagher commented to Personnel Today that industry figures should pull together to discuss solutions to the current skills shortage.
"Hopefully we can move beyond the finger-pointing aspects of this report and instead spark some constructive dialogue across the sector about how we work together to ensure that the future of the industry is safeguarded," he said.
He added to the news source: "Everyone involved in the industry has a part to play."
These comments follow findings from a report by the Association for Consultancy and Engineering, which claimed recruitment firms were worsening the skills shortage by poaching staff.
The survey finds that four out of five engineering companies feel recruitment agencies give a poor or average service.
Recent results from a Bank of Scotland poll found a skills crisis in Scotland is affecting all sectors, but engineering and construction jobs are thought to be the hardest-hit areas.
