There is a shortage of skilled construction workers in the UK, according to the latest survey from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Research by the CIOB has revealed that migrant workers generally work as labourers and as such are not filling the gap of middle and senior managers in the sector.
And a lack of skilled construction workers was reported as a problem by 93 per cent of the firms questioned by the body.
"Despite the credit crunch, 70 per cent of the respondents believe that there will be an increase in construction demand in 2008 together with a worsening supply of middle and senior management," deputy chief executive of the CIOB Michael Brown told Online Recruitment.
EMS Sigma recently suggested that the skills shortage in the engineering and manufacturing sector may not be solved for another five years, Online Recruitment reported.
