The teaching and healthcare sectors were among the biggest recruiters in April, according to the Monster Employment Index UK.
Figures from the online recruitment agency reported that the majority of industry sectors experienced a fall in vacancies being filled although healthcare, social work and personal care, and environment, architecture and urbanism saw an increase in demand.
Job opportunities in education, training and libraries reached their highest level ever last month.
People who work in the crafts industry also found there were more jobs to apply for.
Across all sectors, however, there was a slight fall of nine points, especially in banking and financial services.
The greatest fall in demand was experienced for service, shop and market sales workers, as well as professionals and technicians and associate professionals, though blue-collar occupations did better this month.
Monster's latest index for Europe shows that demand throughout the continent rose for the third month in a row in April.
