Six million UK workers are not satisfied with their job, a new survey out today reveals.
A poll carried out by YouGov on behalf of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) also found that one in three workers do not feel engaged by their employer.
The most common problem cited in the survey was increased workload, with 11 million people complaining of having too much work.
Forty-two per cent also complained that their pay did not reflect the cost of living, with 31 per cent saying that they did not receive the same pay as other people doing similar jobs within their organisations.
It was shown that only 66 per cent of people enjoyed their work and while 73 per cent said that that the opportunity for promotion was important to them, only 34 per cent said they had experienced it.
TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "There are some challenging figures here for British employers with a quarter of the workforce saying they are not satisfied with their jobs and almost one in three saying that their employers do not engage with them.
"There may be no magic bullet for improving Britain's productivity, but without engaging staff and providing the training and advancement opportunities they want we do not have much chance."
