Male professionals in the legal sector earn more money on average than their female colleagues, new research has revealed.
In fact, female solicitors take home £19,000 less each year than their male equivalents, the Law Society has discovered.
A survey by the body showed that male solicitors can expect to earn an average of £60,000 a year, while females doing the same job will only earn £41,000.
Fiona Fitzgerald, chair of the Association of Women Solicitors, stated that pay and progression are not improving for women, despite the number of females now entering the profession.
"The pay gap demonstrates not only that many women are not equally rewarded for equal work, but most significantly, that women are not making the progress through the profession that they should," she commented.
According to CV Screen, the average advertised salary for IT workers has reached £34,217 - a rise of 4.1 per cent in 12 months.
