The opening of a new Sainsburys store in Westhoughton, Bolton, could create up to 200 new jobs in the area, it has been claimed.
The supermarket has submitted plans to the local council regarding a £7.5 million project that would see the development of a 30,000 sq ft store on the site of a local cricket club, the Bolton News reports.
It is expected that the new store will see the creation of between 150 and 200 full and part-time positions if the plans are approved.
Paul Miller, development surveyor at the firm, told the newspaper: "We had hoped to submit a planning application in April but have been delayed because we have made some changes to reduce the overall mass of the store and address the concerns raised."
Reports suggest that Tony Campbell, a former Asda executive, could be made chairman of Sainsburys if the firm is purchased by the Qatar-based investment fund Delta Two.
