Workers operating within the retail industry should be more valued for their contribution to the economy, according to one expert.
Commenting on the retail sector in south Wales, Jonathan Churchill of property firm King Sturge told the Western Mail that the world of retail is a significant provider of jobs and can offer a host of training opportunities.
He added that retail developments with good management can help a number of sectors of society into a job.
"Retailing is a major employment source, not least in deprived areas of the UK, where it accounts for 1.1 million jobs, or ten per cent of the total workforce. The worth of people in retail jobs should be more widely appreciated," Mr Churchill commented.
Last week, James Woodward of King Sturge claimed that shopping centres in the south-west need to offer more leisure facilities such as restaurants and cinemas - which may create more new jobs - to compete with the rise of online shopping.
