There is a lack of qualified accountants looking for employment, a new survey has indicated.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland reports that a poll carried out by CA Magazine has found 57 per cent of Scotland's 50 largest accounting firms are finding serious difficulty in recruiting professionally qualified accountants.
CA Magazine editor Robert Outram commented that the results are good news for accountants looking for employment.
"Its good news for CAs [chartered accountants] looking for a move, or a salary hike, but bad news for their employers," he said.
He added that retention and recruitment has become "very challenging" in the sector.
Furthermore, the publication spelled out good news for future accountants, claiming the shortage is a long-term issue.
Recruitment specialist Max Williamson recently commented that accountants should be choosing a suitable long-term position, rather than be attracted by big pay packets and exotic holidays that some companies may promise to provide.
