Record satisfaction levels with rail travel
Just over four in five passengers are very or fairly satisfied with their experience of rail travel, a report says.

The survey reports that customer satisfaction is up one per cent compared to autumn 2005, taking the number to more than four-fifths of all rail travellers, according to independent rail watchdog Passenger Focus, making it the highest-ever level recorded.

But the proportion of passengers satisfied with the price of their ticket nationally was 43 per cent - little changed compared to the previous two surveys.

The report has also named train operators who were seen to be the best and the worst by customers. In first place, 96 per cent of Heathrow Express customers were happy with the level of service they received compared with Southeastern passengers who, in last place, had satisfaction levels of 75 per cent.

Of the 25,000 passengers questioned, 85 per cent of all long-distance travellers were happy with the service they received.

The results come just one week after First Great Western was forced to apologise to customers after regular travellers on the Bath-Bristol commuter line refused to pay rail fares in protest at over-crowded and late trains.
