Qatar Airways has confirmed an £8.06 billion order for 80 of Airbus' new A350 XWB aircraft at the 47th International Paris Air Show.
The airline also announced a new order for three A380 super-jumbo models worth nearly $1billion (£0.504 billion).
Deliveries of the aircraft are scheduled to begin in May. Qatar Airways will use the A350 XWBs to replace its present fleet of A330s on regional and long haul routes.
Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar al-Baker said: "Concluding this deal with Airbus for the all new A350 XWB and the 21st century flagship A380 is a significant step in our development and towards reinforcing our commitment to operating the very latest and most modern fleet.
"Both the A350 XWB and A380 offer unbeatable operating economics and their performance and range will allow us [to] continue the rapid development of our network."
Airbus expects United Arab Emirates' national carrier, Emirates, to make an order worth about $3 billion (£1.513 billion) for ten Airbus A380s as well. Emirates already has firm orders for 47 superjumbos.
The aircraft manufacturer also hopes to seal deals worth £2.01 billion for 22 A350 planes with US Airways.
Airbus is locked in fierce competition with Boeing for orders for their latest planes. Airbus' A380 has been beset with manufacturing problems and has been unable to deliver its 555-seater double-decker A380 on time.
Boeing's Dreamliner jet has been one of the key contributors to the US firm's growth.
