A new initiative has been set up to get single parents back into the world of work.
The scheme, organised by West Lancashire district council and Jobcentre Plus, is trying to encourage parents in the area to become employed.
Portfolio holder for planning and regeneration councillor Ian Grant comments on the difficulties single parents can face when thinking about returning to employment.
"For lone parents many would love to be in employment but face issues such as who would look after the children, or whether they would actually be better off financially," he remarks.
He adds that the council supports any initiative to get people back to work.
Recently, bosses were advised that mums could provide a pool of talent, if they are offered flexible working hours.
Conducted by WorkingMums.co.uk, research showed that 83 per cent of new mothers cannot find suitable employment that makes use of their skills, while 90 per cent struggled to find a job that offered flexible working.
