Public sector IT companies 'struggle to recruit graduates'
23-10-2008
Some public sector IT companies are finding it increasingly difficult to recruit new employees as the number of people graduating from university courses is falling, it has been claimed.
The British Computer Society says that demand is outstripping supply and many graduates are now turning to the private sector for work, vnunet.com reports.
Because of this, it is thought that public services could start to be affected in the future.
Robert Chapman, chief executive at IT training firm Firebrand Training, believes it is the fault of an industry which has a "poor record of promoting itself".
"There is a perception that IT is a boring grey box in the corner, when in fact there are number of highly attractive roles that are a lot more creative than people believe," he said.
Contractor UK has today reported that the IT and telecoms industries have been some of the worst hit by the credit crunch, according to a Siemens survey.
