Optimistic jobseekers with a positive attitude are more likely to secure a position, new research has revealed.
A study, published by the Guardian and Barkers, found that people who successfully secured a position were 60 per cent more likely to describe themselves as optimistic about finding a job.
They were also more likely to register for job alerts and upload their CVs on to online recruitment websites.
Two-thirds of the positive jobseekers found friends, family and word of mouth useful for finding positions while just under half of the negative people said the same thing.
Helen Bird, head of Guardian Jobs, said: "We wanted to test some hypotheses about successful job hunters and see whether or not they are true."
She said they also wanted to "discover any changes in jobseeker behaviour and attitudes over time".
According to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, those looking fro employment are disadvantaged if they do not have good IT skills.
