Employers are increasingly looking to the internet to advertise their jobs and find the best talent, a new survey shows.
According to figures from the Monster Employment Index, online recruitment grew in May, following declines in the two previous months.
Monster Worldwide head of economic research Hugo Sellert said the current economic climate means some businesses are being "cautious" about taking on new staff.
Nevertheless, he added: "The index remains significantly higher than last year, suggesting that more companies choose to advertise their vacancies online."
Healthcare, social work and education were among the job categories with the highest demand in May, the figures show, while library and training jobs also experienced a rise.
However, recruitment in banking, insurance and finance "decreased significantly" as the economic slowdown hit jobs in the sector.
In related news, a study from the Centre for Economics and Research Business forecast that tightening economic conditions and a downturn in the housing market could see 15,000 estate agents lose their job by the end of 2008.
