A survey conducted by the Aziz Corporation has revealed that being on the bigger side can damage your chances of promotion.
In the survey of 300 bosses, results suggested that workers who had problems with their weight were often not valued as highly as their slim and fit colleagues.
Around 70 per cent of managers and directors interviewed confessed that they often saw overweight employees as lacking in discipline and self-control.
Bosses admit that they would prefer to give someone fit and healthy a more high-powered job, as they feel these workers are more able to deal with pressure.
Professor Khalid Aziz, chairman of the Aziz Corporatation, commented: "Contrary to the belief that brains not weight is important in business, and that only supermodels and celebrities need to concern themselves with diets and regular exercise to look good, this research reveals that appearance matters in business and that weight is one of the key factors in appearance."
Some 38 per cent of British workers surveyed believe themselves to be overweight and 44 per cent of corporate workers plan to begin a new diet with the new year to demonstrate their self control and willpower.
