Nurses have agreed a new deal with the government concerning their rate of pay.
Health unions agreed to negotiate with the government over the issue following the release of the NHS Pay Review body's findings.
A three-year agreement has been struck that will see NHS nurses' pay increasing by eight per cent by 2011.
Sandra Gidley, the health spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats, was pleased at the news, noting that the government had followed the guidance from the pay review body.
She remarked: "The three-year deal will help provide economic stability, as well as giving health workers a more certain financial outlook."
"Ministers seem to have learned from their underhand scheme to stage police pay."
Salaries will rise by 2.75 per cent starting this year, increasing by 2.4 per cent by 2010 and a final 2.25 per cent boost will come into effect by 2011.
Yesterday, Ms Gidley criticised the government over news that physiotherapy graduates are struggling to find suitable employment.
