IT workers in the north of England may be catching up to the salaries earned by their southern counterparts following the release of new information on the subject.
Currently, IT workers in the north earn 69 per cent of their equivalents in London, figures from ReThink Recruitment have discovered.
However, salaries in the north surged up by 29.7 per cent during last year, suggesting the gap is closing.
Jon Butterfield, the ReThink Recruitment managing director, remarked that the credit crunch should see the divide narrow further.
"Developers skilled in the latest web technologies, for example, can earn almost as much in Manchester and the cost of living is considerably cheaper," he said.
Furthermore, those who are at the top of their game are likely to see negligible differences in pay according to region, Mr Butterfield added.
The British Computer Society recently stated that the government should continue to fund those intending to study IT as a second degree.
