Jobseekers in the north-east of England are set to get a boost after utilities firm npower announced the creation of 300 new jobs in the region.
The new roles will be created at the company's call centre in Whitehouse Business Park in Peterlee, east Durham as a result of expansion at the site, reports the Sunderland Echo.
Currently, npower employs more than 1,130 people across Peterlee and last year created 220 new positions after taking over a new building in the town.
"The planned creation of 300 jobs this year is another indicator that there is still growth in the contact centre sector and faith in the economic stability of the area," commented Sarah Slaven, manager of the East Durham Business Service.
Building work on a new business park near Easington began earlier this week, reports the Northern Echo. The £6 million Hawthorn Prestige Business Park is expected to create about 2,000 new jobs once it is completed in two years' time.
