Japanese console manufacturer Nintendo is anticipating year-end profits double those experienced in 2006.
The Kyoto-based firm today disclosed that it was upping its profit forecast by almost a third from 145 billion yen (£630 million) to 185 billion yen (£800 million).
Last year Nintendo, which makes both the DS and the Wii, reported annual profits of 90 billion yen ($390 million).
Handheld console the DS, the spiritual successor to the iconic Game Boy, has proved a massive international hit for Nintendo, with more than 23 million units of the touchscreen device expected to have been sold by the end of this year.
And the motion sensor-controlled Wii, which is competing against Sony's Playstation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360, has enjoyed vigorous demand since going on worldwide release last year, although many Europeans were left disappointed at Christmas by a lack of stock.
The PS3 is not due to be released for another two months, with a predicted price tag of about £425, as opposed to the £179-priced Wii.
