Employee numbers in the NHS will not be increased but there must still be an improvement in the levels of productivity, according to NHS Employers.
Speaking at a conference to human resources professionals in London yesterday (Tuesday), NHS Employers director Steve Barnett stated that the issue of productivity among health care workers can be likened to climate change - both require action to instigate positive change, but the difficult part would be implementation.
He said: "The only way to meet the challenges is by releasing productive time from existing employees.
"Like with climate change, to increase workforce productivity we must have people signed up. We all need to move now, and we need to bring our people with us."
Last week, despite their involvement with the much criticised Modernising Medical Careers programme (MCC), health service HR professionals were commended by NHS Employers.
Sian Thomas, deputy director for NHS Employers, told Personneltoday: "We recognise the huge workload and effort that has been put in by consultants, HR departments and deaneries in shortlisting so many applications in the past few weeks."
