Upmarket wedding list service Wrapit is on the brink of collapse, leaving newly-weds anxious they will be left without their gifts, according to reports.
Three investors pulled out at the last minute, leaving Wrapit with just one week to secure a new loan. If a rescuer cannot be found, the firm will have to call in the administrators.
The online retailer claims the credit crunch has made it harder to find the financing it needs to survive, while at the same time couples are spending less on their weddings.
The site, founded in 2000 by fashion journalist Pepita Diamond, allows couples to post their wedding list online.
Guests buy the gifts from the company and after the wedding the list is closed and the presents delivered.
However, several customers have complained that their gifts have not been delivered, months after the ceremony.
Wedding website youandyourwedding.co.uk is full of posts from anxious couples asking for advice.
One poster said their wedding was in February, but their gifts have still not been delivered and requests for a refund have been turned down.
"I feel sick," said another bride, "I know the wedding isn't about presents but some people have spent a lot of money and I feel so bad for them."
