A new graduate scheme with the Office of Government Commerce (OGC) has been unveiled this week.
The Government Procurement Graduate Scheme is aiming to give roles to 13 business graduates by the autumn, with the successful applicants to take part in a two-year accelerated development programme with on-the-job and formal training opportunities.
Graduates who get the relevant professional experience are then eligible to apply for membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
The scheme is open to graduates with at least a 2:1 degree in business or other business-related discipline.
"This scheme is the most important recruitment initiative we've undertaken in procurement. It offers the chance to bring both new graduates and people who already have careers in business, management or professional practice into government," commented Mark Pedlingham of the OGC.
Last week, the Guardian reported that the Teach First graduate teacher training scheme is to be expanded to include schools in the Midlands. It currently operates in London and Manchester.
