Up to 100 new jobs look set to be created in Hull after it was revealed that the Sumitomo Cyclo Europe (SCE) plant is to be sold to another manufacturer.
The initial announcement by the Japan-based firm looked as if it would result in the loss of 62 jobs, but the new owner of the factory is to add more jobs to the local economy, reports the Hull Daily Mail.
SCE also said that it will invest over £10 million in redundancy and pension packages for its Hull employees.
"When we went through the original plans and processes in Tokyo, I was very keen to ensure we left a legacy in east Hull. The board wanted to leave a legacy where they were replaced by a manufacturer," commented SCE managing director Shaun Dean.
The Hull Daily Mail reported earlier this month that Chamber Training (Humber) has won funding to help train 80 people in the area looking to enter the security industry.
Participants will be able to gain their Security Industry Authority licence for free under the scheme, helping them to apply for door supervisor and other roles.
