The current network of National Skills Academies is set to expand into four new industry sectors, it has been announced.
Skills minister Phil Hope has said this week that plans are being drawn up for academies linked to the sport and active leisure, retail, glass manufacture and building products, and fashion and jewellery sectors.
This means that the network as a whole will be involved with 12 sectors in total once the new academies are in place.
Speaking at the Skills Pledge launch, Mr Hope commented: "It is good news that four more organisations are now on their way to joining the growing network of operational National Skills Academies and those heading for completion of their business plans."
National Skills Academies offer sector-specific skills training through a variety of centres and online, and are led by employers that work to a standard set of principles.
