The armed forces have been pledged £80 million by the government to help improve the quality of housing they are provided with.
Defence secretary Des Browne said that service men and women deserve gratitude for their hard work.
"A crucial part of this is the welfare package we give our personnel - and central to this is providing good quality accommodation," he remarked.
He added that he was determined to see improvements across the board.
The increase is to be put towards single living accommodation (Slam) Phase 2 which is already receiving £350 million of funding to develop the quality of housing.
As part of the Slam scheme, over the next six years 50,000 single living spaces will be built or improved, with 1,350 new ensuite bedspaces erected.
Mr Browne recently announced that armed forces personnel will receive council tax rebates from April, which should see bills cut by a quarter.
