Milton Keynes sees top employment growth
New research has revealed that Milton Keynes has seen the strongest rate of employment growth over the course of the last ten years.

The study conducted by Centre for Cities found that Milton Keynes ranked above Portsmouth, Brighton, Derby and Southampton, the Press Association reported.

However, the most improved towns and cities tended to be in the north of England, the report noted.

Dermot Finch, director of Centre for Cities, said that perceptions of the north of England as being "grim" are being proved wrong.

"Cities like Warrington and Doncaster are on the up, but need to sustain this momentum over many years if they are going to catch up with the likes of York and Milton Keynes," he commented.

However, some the country's largest cities need to address the "deep-rooted wealth inequalities" found there, he claimed, according to the BBC.

As the head of a successful online business, ClickAJob chief executive Yngve Traberg, agrees that location is no longer the differentiator.

Located in Weybridge, his company enjoys similar advantages to being in Milton Keynes.

"With an online presence, it doesn't matter where you are," he says. "The focus for business is on the web and all you need is access."

"It's a great way to even the odds," he adds. "With the right idea, a small business based deep in the country has just as much clout as a corporate with a prestige London address."

The Centre for Cities is an independent urban policy research organisation funded by the Gatsby Foundation.
