Men encouraged to teach in professional childcare sector

There needs to be more men working in the professional childcare sector, especially nursery schools, it has been claimed.
According to the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC), this is an area of employment which is traditionally seen to be a woman's role.
However, there has now been a social shift and many men are taking a more active role in the upbringing of their own children, the organisation claims.
Thom Crabbe, national development manager for early years at the CWDC, feels that "this needs to be reflected in professional childcare settings" so that they can better represent the communities they live in.
"Men are vastly under-represented in the early years workforce and we want confident and capable men to take their place in this workforce," he added.
Further research by the CWDC revealed that 55 per cent of parents would like a male childcare worker for their nursery-aged children.
