New research has revealed that more than 500,000 business people are set to work on Christmas day this year.
According to Clydesdale Bank, one in ten businessmen and women have work commitments on Christmas day, while 11 per cent of those surveyed said they had missed Christmas day and New Year's Eve in the past.
Mike Williams, business banking general manager at the firm, said that it is "astounding" that so many people miss out on certain family holidays due to work.
"The traditional nine to five working life no longer seems to apply and these results show that many business people struggle to maintain a healthy balance between work, family and social life," he remarked.
In related news, Richard Dodd, head of media and campaigns for the British Retail Consortium, said that some retailers do 60 per cent of their business between November and January.
