Managers are crucial to how an employee can feel about the job as a whole, an expert has said.
The deputy general secretary at the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Frances O'Grady, has spoken out about the importance of line managers, Personnel Today reports.
Speaking at a conference last month, Ms O'Grady said: "It's all very well getting buy-in for change at the top of an organisation, but that counts for nothing unless those on the front line are tooled up to deliver it.
"People's relationships with their own line managers are critical to how they feel about the job as a whole."
She added that managers must ensure that all members of staff are progressing and moving forward in their career.
Yesterday, the TUC warned that 2008 looks to be a year yielding an uncertain economic future, although businesses are remaining optimistic about the employment market in the coming months.
