Female IT contractors feel that they are losing out to male colleagues who find it easier to talk their way into jobs, research from The Training Camp has found.
More than half (54 per cent) of the 270 female IT workers that were questioned by the IT training firm said that they felt they needed proof of their qualifications to back up their experience, while male colleagues found it easier to talk their way into new jobs or new projects.
Around 59 per cent of female contractors said that they feared that their experience was being overshadowed by a lack of formal qualifications.
Chief executive of The Training Camp Rob Chapman said that women in the IT sector felt that they were having a hard time and that men were less shy in coming forward to sell their skills.
"The IT industry is beset by an ever increasing skills shortage and women can play a key role in filling this gap," Mr Chapman commented.
"Whilst women may have exactly the same industry experience they feel they often lose out when applying for new jobs or projects as they don't have the paper to prove it," he added.
