As the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) this week omitted IT workers from its list of UK skills shortages, employees from non-EU countries may now find it more difficult to find a job in the UK, it has emerged.
Because they are not declared to be in short supply, IT workers from overseas will see job posts being offered to British citizens first, if the new Home Office rules are implemented.
Freelance IT workers may be pleased to hear this news, as was the Professional Contractor Group, which represents them.
Managing director John Brazier said: "As [ ] demand for IT contractors in particular seems to be falling, it is good to see that the MAC has recognised that there is no overall IT skills shortage in the UK."
IT support company Connect said recently that UK managers are increasingly outsourcing work as it helps to cut cots during slow economic times.
