London demand for engineering and construction staff
24-01-2007
Engineering and construction workers were the most in-demand temporary staff in London during December, new figures from the Bank of Scotland show.
Demand for engineering and construction staff was followed by a strong need for nursing and medical care staff, then executive and professional workers.
When it came to permanent staff, meanwhile, it was nursing workers who were most in demand in the capital, followed by accounting and financial staff then engineering and construction employees.
December saw pay for temporary staff rise by the fastest pace for 25 months, while permanent staff wages saw the strongest rise for 73 months and both sectors saw an increase in staff placements.
Group economist at the Bank of Scotland Tim Crawford said: "December's survey data painted a buoyant picture of labour market conditions in the capital to end 2006 with employment growth accelerating and salaries rising as firms look to attract quality candidates.
"The data also suggests that so far rising interest rates have not year impacted business hiring intentions."
