Law firms should look for 'diverse range of candidates'

Law firms should be looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds as it is likely that they will be able to contribute a different perspective to a company, one expert has said.
Head of public policy for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) Anne Fairweather commented that law partners wanting to recruit should look at a wide range of candidates.
"I think any wise legal firm should be looking for a wider talent pool and looking for people with different backgrounds, because obviously their experiences may contribute to giving them a different perspective," she remarked.
In order to gain a spectrum of different jobseekers, firms need to advertise in many different places, she added.
Lawyers that do not heed this advice could be missing out on quality candidates, Ms Fairweather stated.
Thus, recruitment agencies are helpful in canvassing a variety of potential lawyers, she said.
A new survey by Milkround.com found that graduates turn to the web first over other mediums in their search for a rewarding career.
