Employees at KPMG have shown their support for a new flexible working scheme which could help to save many of their jobs.
More than 80 per cent of workers at the 'Big Four' accountancy firm have shown an interest in switching to a four day week or a sabbatical of between one and three months on 30 per cent pay.
The move has been suggested by the company in an attempt to cut costs and avoid having to make redundancies.
Tim Payne, head of people at KPMG UK, said: "Our people appreciate we're trying to do something different that benefits both individual and firm and even some of our clients have called up to ask about how we're implementing it."
General secretary of the Trades Union Congress Brendan Barber recently dismissed the opinion of some employers that flexible working can harm business, saying "this is not the case".
