Jobseekers 'warned about fraudulent training courses'
24-02-2009
Jobseekers looking to gain extra skills by taking part in training opportunities are being warned to look out for fraudulent courses.
According to Citizens Advice, there are a growing number of cases where people are being conned by adverts which promise marketable qualifications and then fail to deliver the goods.
This leaves people short-changed and often still out of work, Citywire reports.
Susan Marks, the Citizens Advice consumer affairs policy officer, said: "These scams are particularly despicable in the current economic climate when so many people are being made redundant and are desperate to carve out a new career."
The advice organisation is urging jobseekers to check that companies offering training courses are genuine before parting with any money.
Meanwhile, the Money Advice Trust has suggested that workers who have been made redundant should consider whether their skills may allow them to change career.
