Jobseekers are turning to the internet first to look for a new position, the latest survey has found.
However, totaljobs.com in its Total Forum report has noted that bosses are failing to take advantage of online applicants, PersonnelToday.com reports.
The study found that 80 per cent of jobseekers will look on the internet first for a job, before reaching for a local newspaper, yet many employers are failing to respond to their applicants.
Website director of the firm John Salt comments that industry has seen a turnaround over recent years.
"Five years ago business was ahead of consumers in terms of internet sophistication, but now the tables have turned," he remarks to the publication.
He adds that bosses should transfer their customer relationship principles to online recruiting.
Furthermore, more managers are looking online for a change of job, with 41 per cent of web jobseekers at a managerial level or above.
Recently it was discovered that young people are utilising web 2.0 applications to help them choose a career.
