Jobseekers 'choosing job security over high pay packets'
01-05-2009
Many jobseekers who have recently graduated are choosing job security instead of high salaries when looking for employment, it has been claimed.
According to Martin Birchall, managing director at High Fliers Research, many people are concerned that if they do manage to secure a position, there is a chance the employer could withdraw the offer before they start work.
Even then, they still have concerns that they could quickly be made redundant.
Mr Birchall said that jobseekers are now shunning the previously popular banking sector and "rather than chasing the very highest salaries, many students are opting for job security and going where the jobs are available".
A survey conducted by High Fliers Research revealed that 52 per cent of university leavers describe employment prospects for graduate jobseekers as limited.
Only 36 per cent expect to start a graduate job when they finish university this summer.
